Yorkville Public Library Lists April Youth Programs – Shaw Local

Yorkville Public Library has announced the following upcoming youth programs.

Poetry contest for all ages: The Yorkville Public Library is holding a poetry contest to showcase your creativity. Poets of all ages are invited to submit a poem on any subject and in the style of your choice.

The poem can be of any length, type/form, and subject, but because we post the poems for our community to read, the subject must be appropriate for a wide range of ages. By submitting your poem, you give Yorkville Public Library permission to publish your poem. Prizes will be awarded to the best poem in each age group: 6 and under; 7-12 years old, 13-19 years old and 20 years old and over. Check the YPL website for more information. Submit anytime between April 1 and April 25.

Escape Room Adventure – Farmer Fred’s Garden Gloves: This escape adventure will be available in April. Use the clues to open the box and find Farmer Fred’s gloves. Contact Youth Services for an appointment at 630-553-4354 ext. 108 or come see us.

Story time: Every Friday at 10:30 am This story hour takes place in the children’s area of ​​the library. A Friends of the Library volunteer is the special reader.

Mini Golf FUN Raiser: Sunday, April 3, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come and play 18-hole golf on the two floors of the library. The holes on the course are sponsored by corporations and decorated either by that corporation or by a non-profit organization within the Yorkville community. Players can vote for their favorite hole, try to get a hole-in-one on the 10th hole, and enjoy some leisurely activity on the 19th hole. Many donations from businesses and families in the region will be drawn on the day of the event. All proceeds from the event will be used to support and promote library programs and services.

Toddlers and toddlers: Tuesday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 20, 10:30 a.m. Join us for songs, stories and dancing. Your child will receive a craft to do at home. Register for this event on the YPL website under Events Calendar.

TAG- Teen Advisory Group: Tuesdays, April 5 and 19, 2:45-3:45 p.m. This year, our TAG members are focusing on “BE THE CHANGE” by giving back to the community. Teens in grades 8-12 come together to share ideas about the teen sector at the library and how to support Yorkville. They help create and plan programs. This group also has the opportunity to earn volunteer hours. A great opportunity to meet new people and have fun and laugh.

Preschool area: Wednesday, April 6, 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Choose either time and join us for songs, rhymes, and books. This program is for our preschoolers, but is open to all young children. Register for this event on the YPL website under Events Calendar.

Book club (1st and 2nd year): Thursdays, April 7 and 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. In this book club in two sessions, we will read a book with an easy chapter. Register for both days on the YPL website.

Book Club (Grades 3-5): Mondays, April 11 and 25, from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. In this two-session book club, participants will receive the book on April 11 to read at home. Then it will be discussed at the next session on April 25. Register for both days on the YPL website.

Literacy centers: From Tuesday April 12 to Thursday April 14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Friday April 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. For 3-6 year olds. Stop by anytime Tuesday through Friday for a parent-guided opportunity for hands-on literacy instruction. Literacy centers are designed to give children many opportunities to practice the very important skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Reading with paws: Saturday, April 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children can come to the library, choose a book and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited body. This program was originally designed because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than to an adult; so it was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just to encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Contact the library at 630-553-4354 ext. 108 for your 15 minute time slot. Space is limited.

LEGO kits at YPL: April 18-22. Come to the library any time of the week and we will provide you with a themed container of various LEGOs to use in the library. Using only the bricks provided and your creativity, complete your construction. Your creation will be added to the LEGO display in the library. Register on the YPL website.

YA Teen Book Club: Tuesday, April 26, 3 p.m. Mackenzie will lead the group in a discussion about this month’s book. The book is available from April 7 at the Youth Service office. Registration is mandatory.

Harry Potter Book Club: Thursday, April 28, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Hey Muggles, the Harry Potter Book Club has arrived. Join Mackenzie each month for a magical discussion about each book in the series. The fifth book, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” can be picked up from the Youth Services office from April 7. The group will read chapters 21 to 38 for April 28. There will be a Harry Potter party after the last book is finished.

Virtual 3D printing: Leah English provides a step by step tutorial on how to use Tinkercad. Tinkercad is an easy to use 3D CAD design tool, where you can create an object that we can print on our 3D printer. Visit the library website to access the YPL YouTube channel, follow the steps to create your own 3D printed part. Prints cost $0.20 per gram. Send your creations to [email protected]
