In 2019, the Brazilian free-to-air channel TV Globo launched UMASO GLOBO, the unification of five companies of the TV Globo group. As part of the unification strategy, TV Globo aimed to optimize all of its application portfolios. One of the most significant transformation projects for the broadcaster has been the consolidation of its existing scheduling and resource management solutions.
With cloud architecture as a key driver, TV Globo selected Xytech’s MediaPulse Managed Cloud to unify its scheduling, resource and billing solutions. This project improved their ScheduALL system. Xytech acquired ScheduALL in April 2021, and TV Globo is the first major broadcaster to undergo the MediaPulse upgrade process.
“When the announcement was made regarding the acquisition of ScheduALL by Xytech, it reinforced our decision to migrate to the MediaPulse Managed Cloud solution,” says Luciana Povoa, Head of Content Production Solutions at TV Globo.
The first stage of TV Globo’s rollout took place in October 2021 when all of its business units using ScheduALL were migrated to the MediaPulse Managed Cloud. During the first stage, the two main areas of activity involved were technology, for journalism, entertainment and sports, and the instance of sports content.
Then in December 2021, TV Globo completed the second step, integrating its Entertainment Production Execution domain into MediaPulse.
“Following Globo’s platform unification strategy, and in line with the need to use new features that enable better capacity planning and better scenario simulation, in July we will implement the modules” Capacity/Demand” and “Scenario Planning,” Povoa explained. “This implementation should take us to a new level of resource planning and optimization. We are excited to build this future in partnership with Xytech as this new module is still under development by the Xytech team.
Today, TV Globo has approximately 3,000 registered users in the MediaPulse system with multiple operations management units logged on full time.
TV Globo’s content production is both intense and diverse, which is why the company demands efficiency in the use of its resources. This eventually led him to MediaPulse.
“The decentralized resource management model in the history of operations led TV Globo to a scenario where different legacy platforms and systems took over the resource planning and allocation process. This made it difficult to optimize the use of available resources in the enterprise, as well as the demanding complex management of different applications,” said Povoa, adding that the new operating model required an integrated platform focused on a resource sharing vision of different business verticals as well as the need for capacity planning and scenario simulation.
“MediaPulse Managed Cloud already had all of these features and was aligned with our mission-critical solution architecture pilots,” Povoa continued. “Additionally, MediaPulse Managed Cloud presented a proposal for improved usability and mobility, two of our mandatory requirements for implementation.”
The TV Globo project marks the initial deployment of the MediaPulse Capacity and Scenario Planning module and the partnership in the development of this new feature has been a key selling point for TV Globo and Globo’s contribution has been invaluable to Xytech. The new module is available for demonstration at NAB 2022 in Las Vegas.
When TV Globo was ready to switch from ScheduALL to MediaPulse, Povoa said Xytech’s core support team was there to work hand-in-hand with the broadcaster.
