Wisconsin basketball programs to play at American Family Field in November



There will be a doubleheader at American Family Field in November. The basketball genre.

According to information Monday from CBS Sports and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the University of Wisconsin men’s and women’s basketball programs will play at the home of Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, November 11. The men’s team will take on Stanford, while the women’s team will take on Kansas State in the Aurora Health Care Battle of Brew City. Television partners, ticket information and start times have not been finalized, according to CBS.

American Family Field – formerly known as Miller Park – can hold over 40,000 fans for baseball games. The venue, which opened in 2001 and has a retractable roof, has hosted several concerts and other sporting events over the years, including soccer games and the 2007 United States Bowling Congress Masters Finals.

November’s event will bring the first basketball games to American Family Field. According to CBS, the playing surface will span the infield, with center court near the pitcher’s mound. Temporary seating structures will be placed near second base.

You have to go back to December 2015 to find the last time a college basketball game was played at an MLB park. San Diego and San Diego State played at Padres’ Petco Park as part of the Bill Walton Basketball Festival that year. More than 10,000 fans participated in the contest, the first-ever basketball game on the site.

The UW men’s team ended its 2021-22 season in Milwaukee, losing to Iowa State in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament at Fiserv Forum. The Badgers won a share of the Big Ten Conference regular season title and went 25-8 overall. Outside expectations will be low to start the upcoming season with Big Ten Player of the Year Johnny Davis and Brad Davison left for professional opportunities. Davis will likely be a lottery pick in the next NBA draft.

Stanford went 14-13 in 2021, but reigning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Harrison Ingram Return. He averaged 10.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game last season. The Badgers defeated the Cardinal in November 2018 at the Battle of Atlantis in the Bahamas.

The UW women’s program went 8-21 last season under freshman head coach Marisa Moseley. Kansas State reached the NCAA Tournament and went 20-13 overall. The two teams last met in 2006, with UW beating KSU 56-53.
