FROM THE STORM. AUDREY: WE WILL TRY TO KEEP IT COOL TODAY. YOU REMEMBER EARLIER THIS WEEK, OUR RACHEL ELLIS GAVE US AN OVERVIEW OF ALL THE IMPORTANT WORK THE POSITIVE WELLNESS ALLIANCE IS DOING TO HELP THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS WHERE WE START THIS MORNING ON LOCAL CINQ – THE LOCAL VIBE INCLUDING A NEW FREE PANTRY DELIVERY SERVICE AS PART OF A PARTNERSHIP WITH DOORDASH. SO WE LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS SERVICE AND SOME OF THEIR OTHER PROGRAMS YOU CAN ENJOY NOW. I WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME SOPHIA RUSSELL AND KRISTIANA MOORE NOW. SOPHIA IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE POSITIVE WELLNESS ALLIANCE. AND KRISTIANA IS THE ORGANIZATION’S PANTRY COORDINATOR. THANKS TO BE HERE. >> THANK YOU FOR HOSTING US. AUDREY: LOOK AT HOW EXACTLY THE DOORDASH PARTNERSHIP HAPPENED. >> I WAS THINKING OF WAYS TO BE MORE INNOVATIVE IN THE COMMUNITY. I THOUGHT DOORDASH MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING FOR US. I went ahead and reached out to them and I was like, well, how can we make this a thing? HOW CAN WE GET SERVICE HERE SO IT IS NOT A JOB FOR ME TO GET THE DELIVERIES TO THE COMMUNITY. DOORDASH SAYS WE HAVE AN INITIATIVE WHERE YOU CAN MAKE A PROJECT – WHERE YOU CAN HAVE FREE DELIVERY SERVICES YOUR PANTRY – FOR YOUR PANTRY. WE PUT ALL THE ELEMENTS TOGETHER AND IT’S LIKE THIS TODAY AND IT’S SUCCESSFUL. AUDREY: SOPHIA, HOW DID THIS TAKE THE POSITIVE WELLNESS ALLIANCE TO THE NEXT LEVEL? THESE ARE SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY WE HAVE NOT SEEN BEFORE. >> BEFORE THE PANDEMIC WE DELIVERED FOOD BOXES TO SOME OF THE PARTICIPANTS WHO WERE ABLE TO COME TO THE FOOD ENTRANCE. THIS INITIATIVE ALLOWED US TO EXPAND SERVICES BEYOND WHAT WE WERE ABLE TO DO. WE HAVE COVERED A 10 MEYER RADIUS – 10 MILES FROM THE PANTRY. WE HAVE TRIPLED THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WE HELP. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE INITIATIVE THAT IS HAPPENING. IT ALLOWS OUR AGENCY TO EXTEND OUR ARM TOWARDS THE COMMUNITY. AUDREY: THE FOOD PANTRY HAS A COMMUNITY GARDEN. CAN YOU SHARE ABOUT THIS? >> WE ALL PRACTICE — NEAREST 40 SALES — HORTICULTURE THERAPY. — IT’S MORE THAN JUST A GARDEN, WE CAN GIVE MORE. I THOUGHT WHERE THIS CAN BE THERAPEUTIC. THAT’S THEN I THOUGHT ABOUT THE ENTIRE START – HORTICULTURE THERAPY. IT IMPACTS FAMILIES. IT IS ABOUT PRACTICE SKILLS SO THAT THEY CAN EITHER GAIN SKILLS OR LOSE AN UNDERSTANDING THE WHOLE THING OF BEING ROUTED AS AN INDIVIDUAL. WHAT CAN YOU ANALYZE ABOUT THE GARDEN AND APPLY IT TO YOURSELF – YOUR LIFE? AUDREY: WHAT HAS BEEN THE RESPONSE OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE BENEFITED FROM THIS PARTNERSHIP, WHETHER IT’S THE PANTRY OR THE GARDEN? >> I WILL TALK ABOUT THE GARDEN AND PANTRY – THE GARDEN HAS BEEN AWAY FOR PEOPLE TO CONSIDERING DIFFERENT ADAPTING SKILLS. RISE HAS OCCURRED WITH MENTAL ILLNESS OR MENTAL AWARENESS, IT GIVES PEOPLE ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN A SKILL THEY CAN USE – AS A COPING MECHANISM TO HELP THEM THROUGH ANY CHALLENGES THEY CAN HAVE AND IT HELPS THEM KNOW HOW TO GROW THEIR OWN VEGETABLES. IT IS A WAY FOR US TO RECONNECT TO THE EARTH AND TO OURSELVES. I THINK THE WORK CULTURE SHOW – HOST – HORTICULTURE THERAPY WAS USEFUL. AUDREY: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY AND COMING TO LOCAL FIVE. HERE IS THE LINK ON SCREEN. WEBSITE AND PANTRY NUMBER. YOU CAN VISIT THESE LINKS AND MAKE A DONATION. THIS IS A NEW INITIATIVE. IT’S FREE FOOD AND TRANSPORT. FOR PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN FOOD DESERTS AND THERE ARE SO MANY COMMUNITIES THAT WE DON’T EVEN KNOW THEY ARE IN THE BACKYARD WHO ARE STRUGGLING. BRIAN: JUST FOOD FOR THEM. THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE TO GO. CHRISTINA: WE ALL KNOW THERE ARE PARTS OF GREENSBORO, ESPECIALLY THAT ARE FOOD DESERTS.
