BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Amazon will fight for youth sports programs in Massachusetts. Today, the company announced it is donating almost $1 million to youth sports teams and organizations across the Commonwealth. The grants will help expand access and level the playing field for sport and fitness opportunities in underserved neighborhoods and help organizations address COVID-related budget shortfalls.

We hope this donation will bring young athletes back into the game.”
The company made the announcement during South End Baseball’s opening day parade and festivities. Amazon invests in eight communities across the Commonwealth. Amazon’s resources come as many local youth sports organizations across the country are struggling to recover from the economic effects of the pandemic. Survey Data year suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on youth sport participation. A national study by the Aspen Institute found that 13% of young sports parents said their community sports provider had closed due to COVID-19, and an additional 12% said it had merged with another organization. A total of 44% of families said their community program had either closed, merged or returned with limited capacity.
