Pakistan’s Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the state-owned company Pakistan Television Company sacked TV presenter Ahmed Quraishi, after he visited Israel as part of a Pakistani diaspora delegation, the Grandstand Express .
Aurangzeb said Quraishi’s services were interrupted due to “personal travel to Israel”.
The delegation included 15 members of the Pakistani diaspora and was led by two civil society groups. The visit aimed to promote interfaith harmony between Muslims and Jews.
The Pakistani government has distanced itself from this visit. On Sunday, Pakistan’s foreign office as the delegation represented the country. “Pakistan’s position on the Palestinian issue is clear and unambiguous. There is no change in our policy on which there is complete national consensus. Pakistan strongly supports the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Information Minister said, “There has been no change in Pakistan’s policy towards Palestine. The policy of our country is clear and in accordance with the orders of Quaid-e-Azam… no policy or action can be taken against the will of the people of Pakistan,” she said.
