New lifestyle and reality network launched in DC and other markets

Twist airs in Washington on Channel 9 digital subchannel 9.4. Twist is available in 41 Tegna markets and 11 Univision markets.

Tegna Inc., based in Tysons, Va., owner of 64 television stations, including WUSA9 in DC, has launched a 24-hour, female-focused reality and lifestyle network called Twist – and watching it also comes with a twist.

Twist does not air on cable channels, but is instead a live channel that viewers will find on the digital subchannels of its local television stations. Viewing these channels requires an over-the-air digital antenna, which is increasingly popular with consumers.

Twist airs in Washington on Channel 9 digital subchannel 9.4. Twist is available in 41 Tegna markets and 11 Univision markets.

“Audiences hungry for lifestyle and reality programming, who have been underserved in the multicast space, now have free access to high-quality programming that has never been available live,” said Brian Weiss, President of Tegna Entertainment Networks.

Twist’s shows include home restoration and renovation programs and reality series such as Dance Moms, Tabatha Takes Over, Flipping Out and Clean House. It will add Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Top Chef: Masters, and Dr. 90201 in the coming months.

Digital antennas plug directly into a TV and can be placed indoors. Unlike cable or streaming services, there are no subscription fees to watch live digital subchannels.
