Various Kapuso personalities and shows were recognized during the Gawad Pilipino Icon of the Year 2022 held on September 17.
Pillars of GMA News and Public Affairs Jessica Soho, Mel Tiangco, and Mike Enriquez topped the list of Kapuso personalities who received the “Media Industry Icon of the Year” award.
Soho won “Outstanding Magazine Show Host of the Year” for highest rating Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.
Tiangco and Enriquez, GMA primetime news anchors 24 oraswere named “Best Female Presenter of the Year” and “Best Male Presenter of the Year” respectively.
Several Kapuso journalists have also been recognized as “Media Industry Icon of the Year”.
Unang Hirit broadcaster and journalist Susan Enriquez won TV Host of the Year for the morning show. Journalist Mariz Umaliin turn, was named “Outstanding Field Reporter of the Year”.
Dapat Alam Mo! anchor and journalist Emile Sumangil was recognized as “Outstanding Men’s News Magazine Host of the Year”. Meanwhile, fellow journalist Cata Tibayane won the award for “Outstanding Showbiz Correspondent of the Year”.
The Kapuso Network also won awards in the Entertainment Icon of the Year category.
Glaiza de Castro was named “Outstanding Composer of the Year”. Yasmien Kurdi was named “Iconic Artist of the Year”. Mavy Legaspi and Kyline Alcantara won the title of “Best team of young lovers of the year”. Maine-Mendoza was also named “Iconic Artist of the Year”.
GMA Public Affairs Adventure Series Lolongunder the banner Ruru Madridwas hailed as “Best Primetime Serye”, while the long-running TV program Eat Bulaga won the award for “Best Midday Show”.
The Gawad Pilipino Awards, held annually to recognize personalities who have contributed to society through their demonstrated passion for work and outstanding work ethic, introduced the “Icon of the Year” to recognize individuals whose advocacy helps Filipinos, especially in times of disaster.
Earlier this month, GMA News & Public Affairs’ daily digital newscast defend the truth won “Best Agricultural Television Program or Segment” at the 15th Annual Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards.
The awarding body recognized the episode “Bakit wala pa ring pag-usad sa buhay ng maraming magsasaka sa Pilipinas? for his exemplary reporting on the plight of farmers in the Philippines during the pandemic. The Bright Leaf Awards are given to the “most outstanding and relevant agricultural stories in print, radio and television.”
