Nine weeks of regular-season high school football action in Illinois give way to the second season, as the 2022 IHSA Football Playoffs officially begin on Saturday, October 22 with the reveal of the qualifiers and fields. playoffs.

The IHSA Football Playoff Pairing Show, which will reveal the first-round brackets and matches of the 256 playoffs in eight classes, will be broadcast live on national television via IHSA’s new TV Network partnership with Weigel from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.: 00:00 a.m.

IHSA TV veterans Dave Bernhard and Matt Rodewald will team up to reveal and react to the first-round matchups in what has become one of the most anticipated nights of the high school football season.

“October 22 has been circled on the calendars of high school football players, coaches and fans since August,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “We are thrilled to partner with Weigel for the annual playoff matchmaking show and are confident that more Illinois fans will get to see him than ever before. We also appreciate the efforts of the NFHS network on our pre-game and post-game streaming shows that will only make this night bigger and better.

One hour of coverage just isn’t enough for one of the biggest nights on the IHSA schedule, so the IHSA Network and NFHS will once again be airing a pre and post show.

The IHSA Playoff Pairings Preview Show and IHSA Playoff Pairings Breakdown Show will feature Illinois “Edgy” prep football guru Jim Taylor Tim O’Halloran by WRMJ, and state-resident high school football bracketologist Steve Soucie of Friday Night Drive. The IHSA Playoff Matchup preview show will air on the NFHS Network from 7:30-8:00 p.m., before returning with the IHSA Playoff Matchup Breakout show on the NFHS Network from 9:00-10:00 p.m. Both NFHS network streams can be viewed at

The O’Halloran, Soucie and Taylor trio will highlight the main storylines of the evening from 7:30-8:00 p.m., hand over to Bernhard and Rodewald for the TV broadcast, then return from 9:00-10:00 p.m. to react to pairings.

Fans and teams are encouraged to use the #IHSAPairings hashtag throughout the night on social media to interact with both shows, ask questions and share photos from the team nights.

First-round games in the IHSA Football Playoffs will take place Friday and Saturday, October 28-29, beginning the road to state championship games at Memorial Stadium on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign-Urbana. The Fighting Illini, Visit Champaign County and will host the 2022 State Championship matches on Friday, November 25 (1A-4A) and Saturday, November 26 (5A-8A).
