A prime example of this is the four-part series Making America Black: Through the Vine which chronicles the vast social networks and organizations created by and for black Americans. Join us for Jazz Night on WPBT on Friday, October 14e! The night begins with Let my children hear Mingusbroadcast at 9 p.m., this program features the life and legacy of jazz icon Charles Mingus before what would have been his 100e birthday. The jazz festival continues with Bird: not out of nowhere with rare archival footage of Charlie “Bird” Parker at 10 p.m. and ends with Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary, detailing the career of the boundary-breaking musician at 11 p.m.
