Applications are open for the Screenworks: Career Pathways programs, designed to help regional screenwriters, directors and producers.
These include the Regional Producer Elevator program, the Director Pathways program, and Inside The Writers Room.
The program is again supported by funding from Screen NSW and, for the first time this year, Screen Queensland will support placements for practitioners in Far North and North Queensland to participate.
Screenworks CEO Ken Crouch said: “Screenworks has proudly supported 61 screen practitioners across the NSW region through our Career Pathways programs to date. The programs have served as a springboard for the directing, producing, and writing careers of many of those who have attended. We are delighted that in 2023, thanks to the support of Screen Queensland, we are now able to open the program to applicants from the NQ and FNQ regions as well.

Screenworks’ Career Pathways programs are designed to advance the careers of regional practitioners by connecting them to industry professionals and opportunities. Through Screenworks’ existing partnerships with organizations and production companies, selected entrants will benefit from invaluable support and guidance from some of Australia’s most respected screenwriters, directors and producers.
Screenworks’ Regional Producer Elevator 2023 program will provide four selected regional producers – two from NSW and two from QLD – with $3,500 and the opportunity to shadow a professional producer working at a program partner production company for five days. They will receive career and project advice from a professional producer, attend the regional forum at global Screenworks 2023 and the Screen Forever 2023 conference. This program will be delivered with the support of Screen NSW, Screen Queensland, Screen Producers Australia and Fremantle Media.
Two regional directors from NSW and two from NQ/FNQ will receive $3,500 to implement a bespoke professional development program that will help them advance their directing careers through the Director Pathways programme. This program will be produced in partnership with Screen NSW, Screen Queensland and the Australian Directors’ Guild and with the support of Fremantle Media.
Finally, five regional screenwriters from NSW and Queensland will be selected to take part in the Inside The Writers Room programme, where they will have the opportunity to shadow a professional writing team working on TV series at some of the most respected production companies in the world. Australia – Made Up Stories, Fremantle Media Australia, EQ Media, Tony Ayres Productions and Wooden Horse. Inside the Writers Room is funded by Screen NSW and Screen Queensland and supported by Fremantle.
Independent judging panels comprised of representatives from Screenworks program partners, industry bodies, and guilds will evaluate entries for each of the programs.
