WACO, Texas (September 12, 2022) – Baylor University’s transformational undergraduate academic programs and experiences were key highlights in the latest Best Colleges for 2023 ranking released today by US News and World Report.
One of the best moments of this year American News The ranking indicates how well Baylor achieved an overall score in the “Programs to Look For” category. American News defines them as reputable academic programs that research has shown are linked to student success and positive learning outcomes while promoting a successful experience for undergraduate students. These program rankings were compiled by university presidents, provosts, and admissions deans who were asked to name the most outstanding schools in each category.
Baylor has made great strides in these categories:
- #10 for freshman experience to integrate into the curriculum first-year seminars or other academic programs that regularly bring together small groups of students with faculty or staff.
- #16 for Learning Communities to provide students with the opportunity to live with peers in a residential living-learning center who share a common academic interest or hobby.
- No. 16 for Best Undergraduate Teaching for the strong commitment of faculty and administrators to teaching undergraduate students in a high quality manner.
- #20 for Most Innovative Schools for making the most innovative improvements to curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology, and facilities.
- #21 for Undergraduate Research/Creative Projects to provide opportunities for intensive, self-directed research or creative work, usually mentored by a faculty member, that results in an original scholarly paper or other product that can be formally presented on or off campus.
- #46 for Best Colleges for Veterans for his involvement in federal initiatives that help veterans and active duty military members access an affordable college education.
For the 11e consecutive year, Baylor is the No. 2 ranked university in the Big 12 and among the top five in Texas at No. 77, behind only Rice (No. 15), the University of Texas at Austin (No. 38), Texas A&M (#67) and SMU (#72) and ahead of TCU (#89), Kansas (#121), Iowa State and Oklahoma (#127), the University of Texas at Dallas (# 151), Kansas State (#166), Oklahoma State (#182), Texas Tech (#219), and West Virginia (#234). Baylor was one point off the No. 72 standings and two points off No. 67 due to ties.

Baylor Ranked Undergraduate Programs
Baylor’s top-ranked program is undergraduate entrepreneurshipwhich rose to 8th national rank in the American News rankings. Located within the Hankamer Business School, Baylor’s undergraduate entrepreneurship is also the highest-ranked program in Texas, ahead of UT-Austin (#9), University of Houston (#12), and TCU (#25). by Baylor first cycle accounting the program also moved up 13 places to rank 44th nationally, while the overall undergraduate business programs at the Hankamer School of Business rose to 64th nationally.
In other university program rankings, undergraduate students feeding with milk programs at Baylor Louise Herrington School of Nursing rose to No. 39 in the American News national rankings while the undergraduate engineering and computing the School of Engineering and Computer Science programs, which now also offer doctoral programs, are ranked No. 104 and No. 114, respectively.

Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business strives to advance the kingdom of God in business, using God’s gifts and academic talents to do so. Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) located in Dallas, Texas was established in 1909 as a degree program within Baylor Hospital Dallas, which is now Baylor University Medical Center in Baylor Scott & White Health, and in 1950 became one of Baylor University’s six degree-granting schools. The first baccalaureate degrees were awarded in 1952, establishing the school among the first baccalaureate nursing programs in Texas.
