Thu 21 July – Wed 27 July 2022
A vital opportunity for players in the FedEx Cup Playoffs bubble presents itself this week at the 2022 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. With just three weeks left in the regular season, the contenders are hoping for a quick end to their 2022 campaign in order to fight their way into the playoffs.
Former world No. 1 Jason Day is safe on the bubble, as he sits 122nd in the race for the season. Unable to consistently put himself in contention this season, perhaps fellow Aussie Cameron Smith’s success rubs off the day and catapults him into the playoffs.
Rickie Fowler is in the same conversation, as he sits 129th with just one top five in his 2021-22 season. The five-time PGA Tour winner has been undergoing swing changes for some time now, and while it has yet to materialize into quality results, the lack of star power in the 3M Open field may allow the name of Fowler to move up the rankings.
A total of 24 of the 25 players ranked 115th through 140th in the FedEx Cup standings will participate this week, with the sole exception of Webb Simpson. Pair the likes of Tony Finau and Hideki Matsuyama on the court, and there will be plenty of action to watch at this year’s 3M Open.
